The North Greenville Men’s Golf team will begin the 2014 fall season this Monday at the Etowah Intercollegiate.  The 2014 Etowah Intercollegiate will be co-hosted by Brevard College and Lincoln Memorial University.  The host course for the tournament will be the Etowah Valley Golf & Lodge in Etowah, NC.

The men will play the West and North courses during Monday and Tuesday’s tournament rounds.  Etowah Valley played host the South Atlantic Conference Championships from 2009-2011 and at a par of 72 playing 6,892 yards will be a stern test for the competitors. The Crusaders will compete against fellow Conference Carolinas member Belmont Abbey, and SAC members Lincoln Memorial, Brevard, Mars Hill, Anderson, Coker, Carson-Newman, and Newberry.

The Crusaders will be looking to build off a strong end of the 2014 spring campaign, where in the last four tournaments of the spring the men racked up 2 wins at the Cliffs Intercollegiate and the Tennessee River Rumble and a second place finish at the Barton Intercollegiate.  The men also look to build off of the individual successes of the 2013-2014 season, where out of the 10 total tournaments the team competed in the Crusaders crowned an individual champion in 5 of those.  This year’s squad will be led by a duo of seniors in Tucker MacDonald and Sam Goodnight.  MacDonald a 3-time individual champion and a 2013-2014 NCAA All-American Scholar-Athlete has competed in every tournament in the past 3 years for the Crusaders and has the lowest scoring average from a season ago of the returners with a 74.25.

Goodnight broke through with his first collegiate win last fall at the Rock Barn Collegiate Invitational and looks to add to both the individual and team win totals.  “Both Tucker and Sam are the glue to this team, I have 100% confidence in both of them and look for them to have big years for us.” said Associate Head Coach Brad Caldwell.  Anchoring the lineup will be Sophomore Christian Constance, who played in every tournament a season ago as a true freshman and looks to solidify himself as a seasoned veteran this year.  New to this year’s lineup will be a duo of very talented Freshmen in Evan Gfeller and Chase Fisher.  “I fully expected both Evan and Chase to come in and make an immediate impact.” Added Coach Caldwell  “This year’s team is as good of a team as we have had in a few years, this group has the potential to be special.  Great teams have that “it” factor or an distinct identity and this team is beginning to find both.”

The men will be competing in a total of four tournaments this fall.  After a two year hiatus, the men will return to the CC of Bristol for the King University Invitational, followed by a return trip to the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate at the Sea Trail Golf Links.  The fall will be highlighted by a trip to the NCAA DII Fall Preview in Hickory, NC at Rock Barn Golf and Spa, which is the site for the NCAA DII National Championship next May. Over the past 3 seasons the Crusaders have improved their national ranking each year and Coach Caldwell fully believes this year will be no different “We are building a championship program here and the guys are starting to understand that and what it takes to reach that level of golf.  Our schedule will allow us the opportunity to have success throughout the year and give us the best opportunity to win a conference title.  This team has great chemistry and a sincere, deep belief in each of their abilities, and as a coach this makes me very excited for what is to come this year.”

Tee Times for the 2014 Etowah Intercollegiate will begin 9:30am, the Crusaders are paired with Belmont Abbey and Brevard for the first round.  Live scoring for the event can be found on and final results can be seen following the tournament on
