MacDonald Named Conference Golfer of the Month
High Point, NC – North Greenville University’s Tucker MacDonald has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas Golfer of the Month for the first half of September.
The Greer, SC native led the way for the North Greenville University Men’s Golf Team at the Anderson University Fall Invitational on the par 72 7,005 yard Cobb’s Glenn Country Club in Anderson, SC and opened the 2013 fall season with a win in his first tournament, shooting a total 69-73-142 in the invitational.
MacDonald, who fired an opening round bogey-free 69, entered the final round of play 2 shots back of 1st round leader Michael Mullmann of UNCP. After a slow start to the final round MacDonald found himself 6 shots back midway through the front-9 but birdies on 8, 10 and a series of bogeys by Mullmann put MacDonald in the lead with only a few holes left. MacDonald needed a 7 footer for par at the last for the individual title and curled it in on the high side to seal his 2nd career tournament win of his career.
“I put myself in good position after day 1 and knew as a team we had some ground to make up, I was just trying to play my best and give the team a chance to win. I didn’t really know how I stood down the last few holes but I just prayed and focused on representing myself in a Christ-like manner and it made the difference, I wish we could have pulled it out as a team but it keeps us hungry” said MacDonald.
