Crusader Golf Set To Open 2013 Season
North Greenville’s golf team, returning with four starters from a fifth place finish at last year’s Conference Carolinas tournament, begins its fall schedule Monday at the Anderson University Fall Invitational at Cobb’s Glenn Country Club in Anderson, SC.
Cobb’s Glenn will be a tough track for the Crusaders opening tournament. Designed by world renowned architect George Cobb, the 7,002 yard layout will be a challenge to the 10-team field, which includes UNC-Pembroke and Flagler (Peach Belt), Anderson and Mars Hill (SAC), and several Conference Carolinas teams.
North Greenville finished out the spring by placing fifth in the stroke-play portion of the Conference Carolinas Championship tournament. With four starters back on the traveling team, the Crusaders are looking to improve even more. Led by Senior Josh ONeal (Greenville, SC), who was named 2011-2012 2nd Team All-Conference, is coming off a very impressive summer. After a top 15 finish in the SCGA State Amateur and a top 10 finish in the prestigious Rice Planters Amateur, O’Neal is hoping to continue his successes throughout the season.
Alongside veteran O’Neal, Juniors Tucker MacDonald (Greer, SC) and Sam Goodnight (Lincolnton, NC) are also looking to be a big component in the Crusader’s success this season. MacDonald finished T4 in the Upstate Amateur, while Goodnight competed in both the Carolina’s Amateur and the NC State Amateur. Both are coming into their junior year with high expectations for this upcoming season.
“We are very excited about what the season holds on our men’s side”, says Assistant Coach, Brad Caldwell. “With several veterans returning and our newest recruits already making stand out performances in qualifying, this season may be one of the best North Greenville has had. Even though All-Conference member Danny Dippel will not be joining us, I am confident in the squad I have and the hard work they have put in over the summer.”
Among the four returning starters, Christian Constance (Waynesville, NC) is joining the traveling team in Anderson as the lone Freshman. Sophomore Lucas Polin (Greer, SC) will also be returning to the starting team.
Mac Bradley (Conway, SC), Jacob Harris (Mills River, NC), Joshua Hopwood (Paget, Bermuda), Ognjen Radovic (Belgrade, Serbia), and Charley Van Norden (Greenville, SC) are all looking to help in the success of the North Greenville Men’s Golf Team this fall season.
