Crusader Golf Records Top 10 Finish
Myrtle Beach, SC - The North Greenville men’s golf team competed this past Monday and Tuesday in the 14th Annual Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate hosted by Lincoln Memorial and Lenoir-Ryhne University’s at the Sea Trails Golf Links Willard Byrd course. The championship course played to a par of 72 and 67,000 yards.

Competing against a field of 21 NCAA DII Regional opponents, including defending SAC Conference champions Lincoln Memorial University and Conference Carolinas champions Queens University, the Crusaders got off to a solid start in round one shooting a team total of 291 (+3) to put them a solo fifth heading into Tuesdays final round. The Crusaders trailed a host of leaders including Wingate, Coker, Emmanuel, and Mount Olive who shot identical 285 (-3). 

Battling abnormally cold temperatures as well as heavy wind and rain from remnants of Tropical Storm Karen the North Greenville men’s golf team struggled throughout the day to slip into a 10th place finish posting a final round score of 305 for a two-day total of 596 (+20). Wingate University was crowned champion with a two day 36 hole total of 574 (-2) and Individual title honors going to Braden Galyon of LMU and Sebastian Anderson of Mount Olive who finished the event at 141 (-3) 

The Crusaders were lead by a trio of upper classmen, Senior Josh O’Neal and Junior Tucker MacDonald who both finished tied 20th with a two-day total of 147 (+3) and Junior Sam Goodnight finished tied 27th with a two day total of 148 (+4) 

“We put ourselves in a good position after Monday to catch the leaders” said Assistant Coach Brad Caldwell. “ The guys fought hard in some extremely windy and wet, difficult conditions. The temperature never got above 60 and the winds were gusting all day, so it was hard for everyone but the guys hung in there mentally we unfortunately just came up a little short.” 

Freshman Christian Constance finished tied for 61st posting 36 hole total of 154 (+10) and Sophomore Lucas Polin finished tied 79th posting a 36 hole total of 158  (+14) respectively. 

The Crusaders return to action October 20th-23rd at the NCCAA National Championships at the Hombre Golf Club in Panama City Beach, Florida.
