Wilson, NC – In a field full of fellow Conference Carolinas members, the North Greenville University men’s golf team finished fourth overall in the field of 12 teams at the Barton Intercollegiate hosted by Barton College.
King College earned the overall team title putting together a total score of 289-297-586 to finish four strokes ahead of runner up Barton College which shot 300-290-590 over the two-day tournament.
Erskine College recorded a team score of 294-297-591 to finish third overall, while North Greenville (299-301-600) and Mount Olive College (307-294-601) rounded out the Top 5 in the team standings.
In the individual standings, Virginia Intermont’s Trevor Banks earned the title with a two-day total of 70-67-137, three strokes ahead of second place Brad Thorne (69-71-140) of Erskine College.
North Greenville’s Tucker MacDonald earned a tie for fifth place overall, shooting 72-74-146 in the tournament, while Josh ONeal totaled 77-71-148 to tie for 13th place.
Senior Danny Dippel shot a two-day total of 73-79-152 to earn a tie for 28th overall, while Joshua Hopwood and Lucas Polin earned a tie for 39th with a identical scores of 77-78-155 to round out the individual scores for the Crusaders.
“We are getting better each week,” said coach Brad Caldwell of the team’s performance this spring. “We had a good game plan going into this week and just needed a few more putts to fall down the stretch.”
The Crusaders will have a week to prepare before hosting the NGU Invitational on March 25-26 at Cherokee Valley Golf Course in Greenville, SC.
