Kannapolis, NC – Despite pouring rain and gusting winds, the North Greenville University men’s golf team earned a 7th place finish in the rain-shortened Irish Creek Invitational hosted by Pfeiffer University.
Due to heavy rain over a series of days, the tournament was cut short, counting only one round for each team in the tournament. Belmont Abbey College’s “B” team won the overall team title with a score of 293, three strokes ahead of second place Brevard College (296). Erskine College and Queens University each shot a team total of 300 to tie for 3rd place in the event, while Limestone College and Pfeiffer each shot 303 to round out the Top 5 in the team standings.
Brevard’s Kim Koivu took home the individual title with a three-under 68 in the lone round of play, while Erskine’s Brad Throne was the runner-up with a round total of 71 in the tournament.
As a team, the Crusaders shot a total of 305 to earn their seventh place finish. In the individual standings, Tucker MacDonald recorded a tie for 10th place after shooting a one round total of 74, while Lucas Polin shot 76 to earn a tie for 19th in his first career tournament.
Josh ONeal returned to the links after missing the fall to shoot 77 and tie for 24th, while Danny Dippel tied for 32nd with a total of 78. Jacob Harris rounded out the individual scores for North Greenville with an 83 to tie for 61st overall.
The Crusaders will be on the road again on March 4 when they travel to Salibury, NC to compete in the Rendleman Invitational.
