Men's Golf Ready To Build On Solid Fall Season

Tigerville, SC – On Monday, Feb. 25, the North Greenville University men’s golf team will return to the links for the 2013 spring season with high hopes after a successful fall campaign in which the team totaled three Top 5 finishes in four events.

The Crusaders will begin the spring playing in the Irish Creek Invitational in Concord, NC hosted by Pfeiffer University. This will be the first time North Greenville has participated in the event, while other competitors include Appalachian State University, Liberty University, UNC-Charlotte, Pfeiffer University, Limestone College, Belmont Abbey College, and Queens University among the field of 14 schools.

Senior Danny Dippel leads in the team in his final semester after recording an average score of 74.89 in nine rounds during the fall season. Junior Josh ONeal, a Second Team All-Conference Carolinas member in 2012, returns to the team after missing the fall season due to an internship, while Joshua Hopwood (75.33) and Tucker MacDonald (76) also return after playing nine rounds each last semester.

“We are extremely excited to have Josh ONeal return this semester. He is one of the top players in the conference and one of our team leaders,” said assistant coach Brad Caldwell. “We have had four weeks of solid practice and a ton of qualifying holes to get ready for this first event. I know the guys are chomping at the bit to get out and compete.”

The Irish Creek Invitational is a two-day event running from Feb. 25-26 with the event slated to being on Monday at 8:30 a.m.
