Freshman standout Tucker MacDonald handled his first collegiate tournament like he was a 5th year senior. MacDonald went into the final round with a one shot lead over a handful of other golfers, after an opening round score of 1-under par 71. “I was a little concerned going into today with how Tucker would handle the pressure of leading and backing up a really good round with another, being a freshman in his first ever college event.” said first year assistant Brad Caldwell. MacDonald proved to everyone he was ready for the spotlight backing up his first round 71 with a final round 3-under par 69 going on to a convincing 6 shot victory. “I’m extremely proud of Tucker, what he did today was huge and has never been done by any player ever to come through our program, he is the first freshman to win a collegiate tournament. He was pretty nervous coming down the stretch but he handled it as good as any player on any level I’ve seen” added Head Coach Jeff Pittillo.
King College shot a two day total of 588 to win the 2nd NGU Fall Classic and placed 3 players on the All-Tournament team. The Crusaders led by MacDonald, finished in second place with a two day total of 599 beating Lincoln Memorial University’s two day total of 600 by one shot.
Sophomore Josh O’Neal posted a Top 10 finish, finishing in 9th after a final round 78 for a two day total of 150, Freshman Sam Goodnight shot a final round 77 for a two day total of 153 finishing in a tie for 12th, and Senior Chancen Blackwood posted a final round 79 for a two day total 156 finishing 18th.
“The guys had a good chance to win this one but we stumbled a little on the last few holes, but we will learn from it and this will only make us better as a team.” added Pittillo
The North Greenville men’s golf team will travel next to Link Hills Country Club in Greeneville, TN for the Tusculum College Fall Classic September 26th and 27th.
