Crusaders in the mix after first round

Anderson, S.C. – After winning three tournaments in 2009, including the Independent Collegiate Invitational, the men’s golf team has high expectations for 2010.

The team began the new season on Monday in the Anderson University Invitational and finished the day sixth in the team standings with a total score of 309, 16 shots behind tournament leader Lincoln Memorial University.

“I thought we would play better than we did with the experience we had back,” said head coach Jeff Pittillo. “I was looking for lower numbers but on the golf course you have to be pretty accurate when the greens are small as they were today.”

Leading the way on the course for the Crusaders was sophomore Danny Dippel who finished the day with a 4-over 75 placing him tied for 12th in the individual standings. Freshman Josh O’ Neal shot 38-39 in his first collegiate round to finish tied for 19th with a 77. Senior Richard Smith shot an opening round 78 to finish tied for 24th and senior Andrew Beck is currently in sole possession of 29th after shooting 79.

The Crusaders will finish up the tournament on Tuesday in Anderson.
