The North Greenville University Golf Team finishes their 2010 spring season with another win at the Independent Collegiate Invitational.
NGU finished at (293-299 592) 8 shots ahead of Lincoln Memorial University (306-294 600). The Crusaders were lead by the strong play of Andrew Beck (73-71 .144) and Brad Caldwell (70-74 144). It was the first time in seven years that two teammates played in sudden death to decide the individual crown. Andrew Beck won on the second playoff hole with a birdie on the 550 yard par5. Other crusader scores included Brandon Coggins (74-77 151) T5, Richard Smith (76-77 153) T8 and Danny Dippel (76-79 155) T11. Coach Pittillo was extremely happy with the overall play of the team for the year. "We have had a great year overall, which included 3 wins and 4 more top 5's. " Ending the season with back to back wins is really big for us as far as NCAA regional play is concerned. We are in the top ten in the NCAA Southeast Regional ranking. If the right teams win the conference championships, we will make our 4th trip to NCAA Regionals in the last 7 years. They take the 3 conference champions and the next best 7 teams. The South & Southeast regions are the top 2 in the country. To have another year good enough to qualify as a Division II independent is awesome for our guys. We now have to wait a week until all the conference tournaments are decided to see where everything ends up." The NGU Mens Golf Team was ranked as high as 22nd in the country this year in the spring. They’re best ranking in 7 years. The previous best being 41st when Assistant Coach Matt Bayliff was a senior.
