Etowah, N.C.- The North Greenville University golf team teed off in the Independent Collegiate Invitation battling overcast skies, scattered showers and 15 other teams from surrounding colleges and universities.
After the first day of competition the overall leader is Rylan Lanham from Western Carolina. Lanham shot a 3 under par 69 on the first day of the tournament.
The overall team leader in the tournament after day 1 is Brevard College which shot a combined 291. After the first day of play North Greenville is sitting in 7th place after shooting a combined opening round of 305. Coach Jeff Patillo says “the weather conditions and the wet course made it tough on all the players in the tournament.”
North Greenville had 2 players place in the top 20 out of 86 total players. Brandon Coggins and Richard Smith are tied for 15th with 8 other golfers with an opening round score of 75.
Other individual score for North Greenville are Brad Caldwell who shot a 5 over par 77, Andrew Beck who shot a 7 over par 79, and Harrison Martin who shot a 6 over par 78. The second round of the tournament begins Tuesday April 14 with tee off at 8 am weather permitting.
