Tigerville, SC- The North Greenville University Golf team hosted the opening round of its annual NGU SpringIntercollegiate Golf tournament on Monday in Tigerville at Cherokee Valley Country Club. The Crusaders finished the day with a score of 301 which was good enough to be tied for first with the Limestone College Saints. The Crusaders were led by Brandon Coggins and Brad Caldwell who both shot a 73.
Other Scores for NGU were Andrew Beck who shot an 81, Harrison Martin who shot a 76, and Richard Smith who shot a 79. Head Golf Jeff Patillo says he is “proud of the way his team performed despite the extreme conditions outside.” The golfers in the tournament today played in wind gust of up to 30 MPH. The overall leader of the tournament is Luke McClellan of Limestone College.
McClellan posted an impressive 2 under par 70. The Limestone player birdied 3 holes in a row on the back 9 (10, 11, 12) and 4 of the last 9 holes. Coach Patillo says “play like that is impressive but even more impressive considering the weather conditions.” The tournament will wrap up Tuesday afternoon. Tee off is pushed back to 11 o’clock am at Cherokee Valley due to the threat of inclement weather.
