ANDERSON, S.C. -- Tusculum's Chris Wynne made an eagle on the 18th hole to win the individual title and give the Pioneers a two-shot victory in the team competition of the 2006 Anderson University Invitational Tuesday at the Brookstone Meadows Golf Club. North Greenville's Nathan Irvin finished second , shooting a two-round total of 6-under 138. Irvin had a one-shot lead with one hole to play, but Wynne eagled the par-5, 505 yard 18th to take a one-shot lead. Irvin had a chance to tie with a birdie, but missed from 20 feet.
Wynne recorded two eagles -- the par-5, 463-yard 12th and the 18th -- on the back nine on his way to a final round of 69 and a 36-hole total of 7-under 137. He also birdied the par-5, 515-yard 14th hole. His 137 total ties the tournament record set by Tri-County Tech's Anthony Richey in '05.
The Pioneers finished the event with a total of 578, two shots ahead of host Anderson.
Tusculum's team total tied the tournament record set by Cape Fear in '05.
North Greenville finished fourth with a team score of 588. Blake Hoover tied for 22nd after shooting a two-round score of 149. Brian McCall finished 28th with a score of 153. Justin Bentley and Kevin Yancar finished 31 and 32 with scores of 156 and 157 respectively.
Anderson University entered the second round on the par-72, 6,700-yard Brookstone layout with a one-shot lead but slumped to a 293 in the second round to finish at 580. Wingate (583) finished third.
The other members of the all-tournament team were Paul Butler of Limestone (139); and Adam Sheriff of Anderson (140) and Shane Dyer of Wingate (140).
Nine players finished the tournament at even par 144 or lower. The group at 144 included Chase Carroll of Tusculum, John Kolls of St. Andrews Presbyterian, Johan Hagsund of Mount Olive, and Clay Williamson of Anderson.
