A Day of Personal Records for NGU Cross Country Teams

Greenville, SC- North Greenville Cross Country teams made the short trip down the road to compete in the Gene Mullin Furman Cross Country Invitational this Saturday. The men’s team finished third beating Wofford College, Anderson University, and Brevard College. The women’s team finished seventh running against stout competition as well.

Freshman Ahmad Nesbitt led the men’s team posting a time of 15:49 in the 5K(3.1 mile) race. Nesbitt’s time was a new personal record and was fast enough to give him a top 10 finish. Teammate Brett Morley wasn’t far behind running an impressive 15:54. Sophomore Stefan Shealy finished third for the team and ran a personal collegiate best time of 16:40. Sophomores Jacob Simms (16:54) and Ravon Wamer (16:58) ran personal records as well, both finishing in the top 40. The men’s average was a blazing 16:27 giving them a third place finish as a team.

The women had a day full of personal records as well. Sophomore Kelly Knutson led the women’s team running a time of 21:08 in the 5K race. Sophomore Allison Beam finished second for the team posting a personal best time of 22:03. Ansley Boltin finished third for the team running 22:38. Junior Chelsea Dyson (23:05), senior Kaitlyn Poston (28:25), and freshman Kayla Steinert (30:41) all ran personal best times.

The Crusaders continue to improve individually and as a team. Head coach Michael Bayne said, "We have a really good group of kids and I could not be prouder of them. For our men to have a team average as fast as it was today was great to see and it was also nice to beat some of the larger schools as well." The cross country teams travel to Brevard, NC to compete in the Brevard College Invitational next Thursday October 11, 2012.
