WINGATE, N.C.--The University of Alabama in Huntsville cross country teams won both the womenís and menís titles at the 2007 Wingate University Invitational Saturday at the Wingate University cross country facility. Sponsored by OrthoCarolina, the event also served as pre-regional races for the 2007 NCAA Division II Southeast Regional that will be hosted by Wingate on Nov. 3. All total, 238 runners finished todayís two races.
The University of Alabama in Huntsville menís cross country team did not want to be outdone by the Charger women, placing all five of its scoring runners in the top 20 to win the 2007 Wingate University Invitational menís 10K race on Saturday morning at the Wingate University cross country facility.
The number three team in the South Region, Alabama-Huntsville won the team title with 48 points. Senior Brandon York led the Chargers to the victory behind a second-place finish out of 124 runners with a time of 33:56. Sophomore Mark Temple (34:16) finished fourth and freshman Nathan Milles (35:09) finished ninth to help spark the victory for UAH.
North Greenville finished 14th with a team score of 425. Samuel Ramos was the top finisher for the Crusaders at 77th with a time of 40:47. Jason Brown finished 94th (42:18), while Josh Bright finished 105th (43:50), Matthew Neese 111th (45:40), T.C. Ford (114th (46:53), Ben Fleming 117th (48:20), and Seth Leonard 118th (48:26).
