Tigerville, SC - North Greenville dropped a close battle with the Trojans of the University of Mount Olive with a final score of 89-87. The Crusaders tied the game late, but a layup within the final second of the game resulted in a tough loss to NGU. Both teams had a solid day of shooting with Mount Olive hitting 57.4% of their shots and North Greenville hitting 53.6% of theirs. Five different Crusaders posted double digit points, with DJ Brooks having the best day with 21 points.
Mount Olive was able to get things going, posting a 10-2 run to begin the game. The Crusaders fought back and eventually reclaimed the lead with a three pointer by Jacob Redding to make the score 22-21. Mount Olive began to pull away again, this time leading by as much as fifteen with 6:19 remaining in the opening half. However, NGU would close out the half strong, putting together a 19-7 run to trail by just three points at halftime.
A highly-contested second half resulted in the Crusaders continuing to stay within striking distance. Mount Olive led the majority of the half, but that would change when Joe Conley hit a jump shot to take a 60-59 lead with 14:07 remaining. UMO would once again regain the momentum and take the lead right back. Late in the half, the Crusaders would trail by nine with just 3:09 left in the game. However, an 8-0 run put North Greenville back within one point. With ten seconds remaining, DJ Brooks hit a clutch three pointer to tie the game at 87-87, but Mount Olive would make the most out of the final possession, hitting a driving layup in the final second of the game to escape Tigerville with the win.
The Crusaders will get just one day off as they will return to action on Monday, January 20th against the Chowan University Hawks in Tigerville.
