North Greenville Can't Complete Comeback in Loss to Barton

North Greenville fell below .500 for the season with an even record in conference play with a 77-72 loss to the Bulldogs of Barton College in Wilson, North Carolina. The Crusaders posted a field goal percentage of .406, and have surpassed the .400 mark in all but two games this season. DJ Brooks led in scoring once again with a season-high 34 points.

The opening half began with a quick layup by Seth Hewitt. An exciting start to the game resulted in five ties and six lead changes within the first ten minutes of the half. Both teams would continue to keep things close as neither team would pull away from the other. Barton would take a five point lead late in the half, but CJ Jamison would close out the half with a layup to put NGU down by just three at halftime.

Barton opened up the second half with a jump shot to increase the lead back to five. DJ Brooks would then connect for two consecutive three pointers to put NGU back on top by one point. The two teams would go on to tie each other at 39-39. Seth Hewitt gave the Crusaders the lead back with a three pointer, but the Bulldogs followed up with a fourteen point run to lead by eleven. NGU would spend the next several minutes attempting to cut into the deficit, and would finally do so with a three pointer by DJ Brooks to make the score 64-59 with just less than five minutes remaining. Brooks would go on a run, scoring fifteen of NGU's final sixteen points, but free throws allowed the Bulldogs to hang on for the win.

NGU will head to Bristol, Tennessee to take on the King Tornado on Wednesday, January 15th.
