NGU Beats Nationally-Ranked Belmont Abbey in High Scoring Affair

Tigerville, SC - North Greenville completed a 100-96 upset of the 20th ranked Belmont Abbey Crusaders. Four NGU players hit double digits in points, and as a team posted a 49.3 field goal percentage. Belmont Abbey put up strong numbers as well, shooting 57.4% for the game. Jacob Redding led North Greenville with a 28-point performance while DJ Brooks was not far behind with 24 points.

Belmont Abbey would lead early on, but NGU would stick around and take a lead of their own just past five minutes into the game. The lead would continue to move back and forth, but North Greenville would pull away with a ten point run to take a 34-25 lead with just under eight minutes left in the half. BAC would eventually fight back with a 10-3 run to pull within a point. The game would be tied with half a minute left, but a made fast break layup by Belmont Abbey would end the half to put BAC up 47-45.

DJ Brooks would begin the second half with a made three pointer to put NGU back ahead. The two teams would spend the next ten minutes trading the lead. Trailing by a point, North Greenville would regain the momentum by going on a 10-3 run to lead 75-69. The Abbey would come back once again to tie the game at 79-79. However, this would prove to be BAC's final lead as NGU would finish out the game strong. With the game still in doubt, North Greenville would come through at the free throw line late in the half to ultimately secure the win.

NGU will return to action on Wednesday, January 8th against the Southern Wesleyan Warriors in Tigerville.
