NGU Struggles In Second Half, Falls to Belmont Abbey

Tigerville, SC - The North Greenville Crusaders fell to the Belmont Abbey Crusaders 79-70. NGU had success in the first half with a 55.2 field goal percentage, but struggled in the second half with a 30.3 shot percentage. Daniel Burchette led in points with 20. 

1st Half

The Crusaders hit two quick shots to take an early 4-0 lead. Belmont Abbey responded with an 11-0 run. NGU worked to tie the game at 19-19. With the game tied several more times, an 11-7 run by the North Greenville allowed them to jump ahead 34-30. Ten points would be scored between the two teams in the final minute of the game with NGU leading 39-37 at the half.

2nd Half

North Greenville began with a 7-0 run to lead 46-37. The Crusaders would hold on to a 7-point lead for several minutes, but after trailing by nine points, the Abbey went on a 9-2 run to tie the game at 58-58. With the game tied once again at 62-62, Belmont Abbey took the momentum again with an 11-5 run to take a 73-67 lead and ultimately won 79-70.

Individual

Daniel Burchette had a solid game with 20 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal.

Daniko Jackson scored 12 points and also recorded 3 rebounds and 3 assists.

Ryan Mobley posted 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists.

NGU will return to action Saturday, January 12th against the Barton Bulldogs in Tigerville.
