The 2018-19 NGU men's basketball team will take the court for the first time in the regular season on Friday against the University of North Georgia Nighthawks in Dahlonega, Georgia. The Crusaders finished the 2017-18 season with an overall record of 12-17 and a conference record of 7-11. Picked 8th in the Conference Carolinas Preseason Poll, this season's team will feature eleven returners and four new faces.
Daniel Burchette, one of three seniors, returns after an All-Conference junior season. He posted a .467 field goal percentage and averaged 14.6 points per game as well as 6.7 rebounds per game.
Roderick Howell was an offensive weapon last year, finishing third in the Conference Carolinas with a .595 field goal percentage. He also averaged 10.8 points per game and tied Burchette for the team lead with 6.7 rebounds per game. On defense, Howell led the team in blocks with 34.
DJ Brooks will be a key contributor on both sides of the ball. Last season, Brooks averaged 9.2 points per game and led the team with 31 steals. He is also a three-point threat, making 42 of 117 (.359) three-point shots last season.
NGU will open up the season as a participant in the PBC / Conference Carolinas Challenge in Dahlonega, Georgia. On Friday, November 9th, the Crusaders will face the North Georgia Nighthawks at 7:30 PM. The Crusaders will then face the Georgia College Bobcats on Saturday at 2:00 PM.
