HIGH POINT, N.C. – Conference Carolinas is proud to announce the Winter Scholar Athletes of the Year, as voted on by the student-athlete affairs committee. This prestigious award is presented annually to a student-athlete in each sport for recognition of their outstanding performance on the field and in the classroom.
Miguel Cartagena named Conference Carolinas 2016-2017 Winter Scholar Athlete of the Year
Candidates are submitted by each member institution from each of the conference’s twenty sponsored sports. To be considered for the honor, the student-athlete must have attended their member institution for at least one year and have reached junior or senior standing with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher on the four-point scale. Scholar Athletes of the Year must also be represented on their sport’s first, second, or third all-conference team, the rosters of which are chosen by coaches at the end of each playing season.
Miguel Cartagena was named Third TeamAll-Conference for the 2016-2017 season. He averaged 14.8 points per game, shooting 40% from the floor, 40% from distance, and 78% from the line. On the season, Cartagena totaled 73 assists and 21 steals. Academically, the senior Biology/PreMed major earned Academic All-Conference Honors with his 3.48 GPA.
