Tigerville, S.C. - The North Greenville men's basketball team came out on the short end of a hotly contested Conference Carolinas Tilt on Friday with, falling to the Barton Bulldogs 79-71.
The Crusaders and Bulldogs stayed even for much of the night, as neither team was able to find a firm grasp on the lead. The game saw 11-total lead changes, six of which came in the first half.
North Greenville's biggest lead of the game came at the 15:55 mark as a three pointer by Justin Dotson put NGU up 12-4 over the visiting Bulldogs. Eight straight points from Barton to answer the NGU run would even the score at 12-12 with just over 14-minutes left in the opening period. The Crusaders would carry a one-point lead into intermission.
North Greenville controlled the action o Friday's night contest until the late into the second half when the Bulldogs finally seized the momentum. Barton capitalized on four of its final possessions while the NGU offense came up empty. The Bulldogs opened up an eight point lead that would stand as the final margin of victory with a 6-1 run which sealed the victory over North Greenville which fell to 3-7 overall and 1-3 in league play.
Korval McElroy topped all scorers and rebounders on Friday night with 19-points and 10-rebounds for the game's only double double. Justin Dotson knocked down three, three-pointers and scored 11-points while Jai Jenks scored 11-points and collected 10 rebounds.
The Crusaders will welcome the University of Mount Olive to Hayes Gymnasium tomorrow night for a 7:30 Conference Carolinas matchup. Saturday's game is a rematch of the 2015 Conference Carolinas tournament championship game.
