Tigerville, S.C. - North Greenville men's basketball will head to the post season riding the momentum of a 78-73 over Lees-McRae to close out the regular season.
Justin Dotson led North Greenville with 20 points and 12 rebounds while Korval McElroy finished with 17-points. Fellow senior Chris Brown finished with five points and four rebounds.
The first five minutes of the game saw four lead changes and a tie as NGU and Lees-McRae battled to a 9-9 tie. NGU took the lead on a Daniel Burchette three pointer which made the score 12-9.
NGU's lead expanded to 13-points as Troy Blyden slammed home a dunk, which gave NGU a 29-16 advantage. Lees-McRae would chip away at the North Greenville lead as a three pointer from Jonathan Honore sent the Bobcats to intermission down just six points as NGU led 37-31.
The second half reflected the first few minutes of the first as the lead changed hands six times with four ties. North Greenville led briefly but the Bobcats battled back to take a one-point edge with 4:13 left in the game.
Chris Brown would quickly erase the LMC lead with a layup that gave NGU the lead for good. The Crusaders would hold on in the end as the Bobcats made one final push with 2:17 left, cutting the North Greenville lead to 71-70. NGU would make good on its final four possessions to lockup the seventh Conference Carolinas win of the season.
The Crusaders will head to the post-season next as they gear up to take on King University in the opening round of the Conference Carolinas playoffs. The league playoffs are scheduled to begin on Monday night. NGU will travel to Bristol Tennessee for the opening round.
