Tigerville, S.C. -- Four players scored in double-figures for NGU but it wasn't enough as the Lions from Emmanuel College earned an 83-75 win over North Greenville, Friday night in Hayes Gymnasium.
The lead switched hands several times in the first half before Emmanuel gained a 21-19 advantage after a three pointer from Steven Guinchard. The Lions would extend the advantage to eight points before halftime.
The Crusaders would bounce back in the second half and open the frame on a 10-1 run. The early second half outburst was capped by a Miguel Reyes Cartagena three pointer, which gave the Crusaders a 49-47 advantage.
Emmanuel would tie the score on its next trip down the floor as a pair of free throws made it 49-49 with 16:28 left in the game. The Lions would gain the lead on their next possession and lead by as many as 12-points, later in the half, as NGU fell into its biggest hole of the game.
The Crusaders would eventually cut the lead to just four points with 31-seconds left to play, but the Lions were able to waste the clock, knocking down free throws in the final 26-seconds.
Korval McElroy led NGU with 17-points Friday night. Troy Blyden and Justin Dotson both had 14-points for the Crusaders while Cartagena finished with 10. Cartagena led all players with seven assists while Dotson and Jai Jenks finished with seven rebounds each.
North Greenville fell to 9-16 overall and 5-12 in league play. The Crusaders will host Southern Wesleyan University Saturday afternoon at 4pm in Hayes Gymnasium.
