Columbia, S.C. -- Miguel Reyes Cartagena scored 30-points on Thursday night as NGU snapped a three-game skid with a 92-83 win over Columbia International University.
North Greenville opened a sizable 14-point lead in the first half as a three-pointer from Christian Davis made the score 39-14. The Crusaders would lead 41-28 with 3:41 left in the first half before the Rams closed the gap to just one point with a 17-5 run to wrap up the half.
The game would remain close the rest of the way as the Rams looked to avenge a loss to North Greenville which came earlier in the season. The Crusaders created some separation several times in the final half of play, only to see the Rams battle back. The Crusaders never trailed in the game, but experienced some anxious moments as CIU hung around until late in the game.
North Greenville's biggest lead of eight points came several times during the half until Jai Jenks made it a 10-point game with a lay-up, leaving 1:52 on the clock. CIU cut the lead to six points twice in the final minute of play, but Cartagena and Daniel Burchette secured the win for NGU knocking down clutch free throws in the waning minutes.
Jai Jenks had his best game of the season on Thursday night as he dropped 16-points and collected 15-rebounds. Justin Dotson scored 14-points while Burchette finished the night with 11-points with seven rebounds.
North Greenville improved to 8-14 on the season after the win over the Rams with a chance to add to its Conference Carolinas record on Saturday. The Crusaders will travel to Lees-McRae in Banner Elk, North Carolina for a 4pm tipoff with the Bobcats.
