Tigerville, S.C. - NGU shot just 37.5 percent from the floor on Saturday night as the Pfeiffer Falcons escaped Tigerville with a 71-63 win over the Crusaders.
North Greenville trailed for the first few minutes of the first half but gained a four-point edge with 7:17 left on the clock before halftime. The Crusaders held on to the advantage until the 2:03 mark when the Falcons knocked down a three pointer to take a 37-36 lead. The Crusaders would go ahead again after a pair of free throws from Daniel Burchette but the Falcons answered with a jumper at the other end of the floor. The Falcons finished the half with a 42-40 lead.
The Falcons would lead the entire second half, building up a lead of as many as 11-points. The Crusaders continued to battle though, chipping away and pulling to within two of the visiting Pfeiffer team with 1:13 left in the game.
Two free throws from the Falcons would gain Pfeiffer a four-point edge, NGU had a chance to cut the deficit back to two points but a turnover and two more two more free throws would extend the lead to six points. The Crusaders had one more chance to cut Pfeiffer's lead to three points, but a missed three-pointer all but ended NGU's chances as the clock ticked below the 10-second mark.
The Crusaders were led by Miguel Reyes Cartagena who scored 17-points. Korval McElroy scored 13-points and was 2-2 from three-point range. The Crusaders fell to 7-13 on the season and 4-9 in Conference Carolinas play. The Crusaders will travel to Belmont, North Carolina on February 9th to take on Belmont Abbey College at 7:30pm.
