North Greenville loses to Limestone

Tigerville, S.C.—North Greenville fell to 4-8 in Conference Carolinas play on Wednesday night after a 64-52 loss to Limestone College.

The Crusaders and Saints battled to a mostly even first half as Limestone carried just a one-point lead into the locker room at halftime. The first half saw five ties and three lead changes as the two squads battled for position. The Crusaders led by as many as six points but a 6-3 run by Limestone would give the Saints their first lead of the game at 18-16.

The Crusaders evened the score at 24-24 with 1:53 left in the game after a jumper from matt Moore but three-pointer from Limestone would make the score 27-24. NGU got a little boost from Miguel Reyes Cartagena in the final seconds though as a layup made the score 27-26 as the two teams headed in for intermission.

North Greenville took the lead 10-seconds into the second as Korval McElroy capitalized on a dunk with an assist from Cartagena. It would be the last time the Crusaders would lead in the game. The Saints quickly responded with a three-pointer to take a 30-28 lead.

NGU would keep the game close cutting the lead to just one at the 14:09 mark but the Saints scored the next eight points to extend the lead to 45-36. Justin Dotson would pull NGU to within six several minutes later with a deep ball, but The Saints continued to answer as North Greenville found itself down by 15 quickly, after a 14-5 run made the score 59-44.

North Greenville would continue to scrap but could only cut the lead to 12-points, suffering a two-minute scoring drought late in the game. Chris Brown would knock down a three pointer with eight seconds left but the Saints escaped Tigerville with a 12-point victory.

Cartagena led the way with 21-points on Wednesday while Justin Dotson scored 13. McElroy finished the game with six points while Troy Blyden and Jai Jenks finished the night with a team high seven rebounds.

The Crusaders will host Pfeiffer University on Saturday afternoon at 4pm.
