Tigerville, S.C.—The North Greenville Men's Basketball team advanced to the semi-finals of the Conference Carolinas tournament with a 77-64 win over Barton College, Saturday afternoon in Tigerville.
Neither offense was spectacular on Saturday, as the Crusaders shot 46.2 percent, well under their season average while the Bulldogs struggled even more from the floor shooting the ball at just a 38.1 percent clip for the game. Spencer Reaves led all scorers with 25 points while Micah Parker finished with 19. LaShawn Alexander finished the day with 16 points.
North Greenville trailed for half of the first period, but a pair of Micah Parker free throws with 8:47 left would give the Crusaders the lead for the first since the 17-minute mark. NGU would lead the rest of the way, minus the seventh tie of the first half and carry a five-point lead into halftime.
North Greenville would cling to its small advantage until finally coaxing some distance as an 12-4 run would give the Crusaders a 13 point lead, the biggest of the game for either team. The run from NGU would be too much for Barton to overcome. The Bulldogs would cut the North Greenville advantage down to 10 points a couple times in the final minute of play, but would pull no closer to the first time host, North Greenville.
The win over Barton in the quarterfinals is North Greenville's first Conference Carolinas Tournament; win since joining the conference in 2011. It was also North Greenville's first time hosting.
North Greenville will move on to the semi-finals to take on second seeded King University which advanced after a 37-34 win on Saturday over Limestone. NGU and King will tipoff on March 7th at 4pm. The Semifinals will be hosted by the top seeded team Mount Olive.
