Tigerville, S.C.—Spencer Reaves pocketed 26 points while Micah Parker and Korval McElroy finished with 18 each as the NGU Men's Basketball Team locked up the third seed in the Conference Carolinas tournament with a 91-82 win over Southern Wesleyan.
North Greenville never trailed in Tuesday's final regular season game as Micah Parker got things started with a three pointer that sparked the NGU offense. The Crusaders would shoot 52 percent in the first half from the field, including a solid 8-14 performance from deep.
Southern Wesleyan would cut the lead down to four points with 5:34 left in the first half, but a three pointer from Matt Moore at the buzzer would cap a 10-4 run to give the Crusaders a 12 point lead at intermission.
North Greenville would enjoy a big lead for the opening minutes of the second half, but an equally impressive offensive performance from the Warriors would quickly delete the NGU advantage. Southern Wesleyan would cut a once 17-point cushion for NGU down to just three points 9:05 left. Kenny Holmes would pull the Warriors even for the first time since the score stood at 0-0 in the opening seconds with a three pointer, making the score 65-65.
North Greenville would find a way to win, despite a lack luster second half on the offensive end, spurred by Jai Jencks, who scored seven points off the bench, but collected several key rebounds, and dished out an assists to Spencer Reaves who nailed a three pointer from the left arch with 2:31 left in the game to help North Greenville regain a five point advantage.
Senior Phil Brown also had a solid night for the Crusaders, scoring 11 points, nine of which came from three point range. Brown was three of six from down town and four of eight from the field overall. NGU capped its best Conference Carolinas mark since joining the league in 2011, finishing with an 11-8 mark, while going 18-9 overall. NGU will host Barton College in the first round of the league playoffs on Saturday, with a tipoff scheduled for 4pm.
