Tigerville, SC - The Crusaders shot 55 percent from the floor, including 57.1 percent from deep, en route to a 99-71 victory over the Bruins of Bob Jones University on Thursday night.
In the first meeting of the two programs North Greenville jumped out to an early 24-3 lead through the game's first eight minutes of play. The Crusader lead would extend to as much as a 27-point advantage as North Greenville carried a 56-29 lead into the halftime break.
North Greenville's lead would grow to a 38-point edge early in the second half as the Crusaders would cruise to the 28-point victory in Hayes Gymnasium.
The Crusader defense had a strong showing in the game, forcing the Bruins into 26 turnovers, while holding Bob Jones to just 37.7 percent shooting from the floor.
Junior Korval McElroy led the Crusaders with a season-high 18 points, shooting 5-for-6 from the floor and 8-for-10 from the free throw line with five assists in just 16 minutes of action.Fellow junior Chris Brown followed with 15 points of his own off of the bench, shooting 6-for-9 from the floor, including 3-for-4 from long range.
Freshman Spencer Reaves totaled 13 points and four assists, while senior Micah Parker recorded 12 points of his own in limited time. Sophomore Jai Jencks (seven points, eight rebounds) and freshman Tommy Wade (six points, six rebounds) had solid games in reserve roles.
The Crusaders (5-2, 2-1 Conference Carolinas) will take on conference foe Belmont Abbey College on Saturday, Dec. 13 in Belmont, NC at 7:30 p.m.
