Men's Basketball Struggles Against Wolves

Hartsville, SC - The Crusaders finished off the weekend with an 86-69 loss to Newberry College on the final day of the Sodexo SAC/Conference Carolinas Challenge on Saturday afternoon.

North Greenville's defense was unable to control the Wolves as Newberry shot 46.9 from the floor, including 47.1 percent (16-for-34) from beyond the arc. While the Crusaders did hold a 42-34 advantage on the boards, 19 turnovers proved to be the difference.

Newberry controlled the game from the opening tip, leading by as much as 18 points midway through the first half as the Crusaders trailed 46-33 at halftime.

The second half proved much of the same as the Crusaders were unable to get any closer than a seven-point deficit as Newberry secured the 17-point victory down the stretch.

Senior LaShawn Alexander was the top scorer with 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field, while pulling down seven rebounds in just 21 minutes of action, with senior Phillip Brown recorded a game-high 10 rebounds.

Fellow senior Micah Parker continued his strong start to the season with 15 points in 33 minutes, as freshman Spencer Reaves was the only other Crusader in double figures with 10 points. Junior Korval McElroy and sophomore Troy Blyden each totaled nine points to round out the top scorers for North Greenville.

The Crusaders (1-1, 0-0 Conference Carolinas) will begin conference play on Wednesday, Nov. 19 with a road game against King University in Bristol, TN at 7:30 p.m.
