Tigerville, SC – The Crusaders put together a last minute comeback that came up just short as the Bulldogs hit a jumper as the clock ran down to defeat North Greenville 82-80 on Saturday afternoon in Hayes Gymnasium
Barton led throughout the first half, gaining an advantage of as much as 15 points with seven minute to play as the Bulldogs carried a 40-37 lead into the half.
The Crusaders took their first lead of the game just one minute into the second half, however, Barton jumped out to a controlling 15-point lead with just under 11 minutes left to play.
North Greenville closed the gap over the final 10 minutes, tying the game at 80-80 on a three-pointer by Keith Johnson with just eight seconds to play. Barton’s Travis McEachern nailed a jumper in the lane as time expired to seal the road win.
Johnson led all scorers with 25 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the field and 9-for-12 shooting from the free throw line and a team-high five assists. Junior Phillip Brown recorded his 15th double-double of the season with 19 points and 15 rebounds to go with six blocks, while Chris Dean rounded out the double-digit scorers for North Greenville with 17 points in 35 minutes of action.
The Crusaders (12-9, 5-6 Conference Carolinas) will travel to Bristol, TN on Monday, Feb. 10 for a conference matchup with King University at 7:30 p.m.
