Misenheimer, NC – Five Crusaders scored in double digits as North Greenville earned its second straight Conference Carolinas win, defeating Pfeiffer University 89-72 on Wednesday night.
In the first half of play the two teams played close until the Falcons claimed their biggest lead of the half 28-21 with 6:39 on the game clock. However, North Greenville battled back to gain a slim two-point lead at intermission.
The Crusaders and Falcons continued to play close for the first eight minutes of the second half until a 14-2 run over a five minute span gave North Greenville a 66-54 lead with 8:27 to play. The Crusader lead continued to build over the final minutes of play, leading to the 17-point victory on the road.
As a team, North Greenville shot 55.6 percent from the field, including 40 percent from beyond the arc, while holding the Falcons to 32.9 percent shooting in the game.
Senior Chris Dean led all scorers with a season-high 23 points on 8-for-15 shooting from the floor and seven rebounds. Junior Phillip Brown shot 5-for-7 from the floor and 9-for-13 from the free throw line to secure his 10th double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds with five blocks, while senior Keith Johnson recorded his second double-double of the season with 13 points, 11 rebounds and five assists.
Freshman guard Thomas Horn totaled 13 points in 29 minutes off of the bench, while junior Patrick George was also in double-digits with 10 points and six assists.
North Greenville (9-5, 4-2 Conference Carolinas) will continue their short road trip as they travel to Banner Elk, NC to take on Lees McRae College on Jan. 18 at 4 p.m.
