Melbourne, FL – After over two weeks away from the court, the North Greenville University men’s basketball team’s winning streak came to an end with a 92-78 loss to the Panthers of Florida Tech on the first day of the Florida Tech Holiday Classic.
The two teams played it close for much of the first half with the Panthers holding a slim lead until a 12-5 run over the final three minutes of the half built Florida Tech a 48-36 lead at intermission.
North Greenville opened the second half of action on a 14-8 run over a four minute stretch to close within six points early in half. However, The Crusaders were unable to get any closer than five points over the final 15 minutes of play as Florida Tech pulled away late to secure the 14-point home victory.
Senior Chris Dean led all Crusaders with 18 points and eight rebounds, while junior Phillip Brown secured his fifth straight double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds to go along with two blocks and two steals.
Junior Micah Parker also totaled 17 points on 6-for-11 shooting from the floor and six rebounds as senior Keith Johnson recorded 14 points and tied a career-high with seven assists. Freshman Jai Jencks came off the bench to contribute five points, seven rebounds and two blocks in 15 minutes of action.
The Crusaders (6-3, 2-0 Conference Carolinas) will take on Francis Marion University tomorrow, Dec. 21 at 5 p.m.
