Tigerville, SC – Senior Keith Johnson’s career-high 33 points and a double-double by junior Phillip Brown led the Crusaders to their sixth straight victory and second in Conference Carolinas’ play with a 71-65 win over Limestone College on Tuesday night in Hayes Gymnasium.
The first half of action saw much back-and-forth play with the scoreboard showing five ties until a short 11-8 run, highlighted by three straight three-pointers from Johnson, gave North Greenville a 40-35 lead heading into the half.
The Crusaders opened the second half on a 9-5 spurt to extend their lead to 54-40 in the first five minutes of action. Limestone battled back to cut the lead to 59-58 with just under seven minutes remaining. However, North Greenville held strong and built the lead back, securing the six-point victory at home.
Johnson’s 33 points came on 12-for-19 shooting from the floor, including 8-for-12 from beyond the arc, while Brown totaled 19 points on 8-for-10 shooting with 14 rebounds and four blocks for his fourth straight double-double.
Senior Chris Dean rounded out the double digit scorers for North Greenville with 12 points and seven rebounds as junior Patrick George and freshman Thomas Horn combined to shut down Limestone’s leading scorer and the leading three-point shooter in NCAA Division II, PJ Foster, who shot just 4-for-19 from the floor and 1-for-9 from the arc to finish with 12 points.
The Crusaders (6-2, 2-0 Conference Carolinas) will play and exhibition against Appalachian State tomorrow before traveling to Mebourne, FL to take on Florida Tech in the first day of the FIT Christmas Classic on Dec. 20 at 7:30 p.m.
