Crusader Basketball Wins Second Straight

Due West, SC – The Crusaders shot a season-high 54.1% from the floor and held their opponent to under 30% shooting for the second straight night en route to a dominating 93-65 victory over Johnson University (TN) on Friday night in the Red Myers Classic at Erskine College.

North Greenville opened the game on a 20-8 run in the first eight minutes of action to claim a lead they would never relinquish. The Crusader lead continued to grow, reaching as high as a 31-point advantage in the first half, leading to a 55-24 edge at intermission.

Eleven straight points to open the second half pushed the Crusader lead to 42 points with just under 16 minutes left to play before the Royal were able to get back on the board. Johnson closed the gap to within 22 points with 4:20 remaining but the North Greenville bench held on for the 93-65 victory.

Senior Keith Johnson filled the stat sheet, scoring 11 points with 11 rebounds and seven assists in just 24 minutes of play, while fellow senior Chris Dean led the Crusaders with 18 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the floor.

Junior Micah Parker was also in double digits with 12 points on 6-for-9 shooting in the game, as freshman forward Jai Jencks just missed his first career double-double finishing with nine points and eight rebounds in 16 minutes off of the bench.

North Greenville (2-2) will travel to Charleston, SC tomorrow, Nov. 16, for an exhibition matchup with The Citadel of the Division I Southern Conference at 7 p.m.
