High Point, NC - Conference Carolinas announces the 2012-13 Men’s & Women’s Basketball All-Conference Teams, Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, and Freshmen of the Year award winners in conjunction with the Conference Carolinas Basketball Tournament Championships taking place this week at league institutions.
Head Coaches from conference member schools nominate and then vote on the award winners who represent the best of the best for the conference.
The conference championships started Monday with the top eight teams qualifying for quarterfinal action. Semifinal play resumed Thursday (men) and Friday (women) with the championship finals on Saturday (men) and Sunday (women).
All games are played at the highest remaining seed with the tournament Champion receiving an automatic berth to the NCAA DII championships. Stay up to speed with all of your tournament information at the league championships website.
North Greenville University’s Tyshawn Patterson was honored as a member of the 2013 Conference Carolinas Second Team All-Conference after a stellar 2012-13 campaign. Despite the Crusaders struggling to a 10-16 record overall and a 5-15 conference record, Patterson shined individually on the court.
The senior guard averaged a school record 23.8 points per game, leading North Greenville in scoring in 21 of the 26 games played. Patterson shot 45.8 percent from the floor, including 30.1 percent from three-point range while recording a 77.1 free-throw percentage. The Orlando, FL native filled up the stat sheet on a nightly basis, averaging 4.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.2 steals per contest.
