Charlotte, NC – The North Greenville men’s basketball team fought tooth and nail to claim a 79-74 victory over Johnson & Wales University on Wednesday afternoon in Time Warner Cable Arena, home of the NBA’s Charlotte Bobcats.
North Greenville controlled the game from the tip, shooting 58.8 percent from the floor in the first half en route to a 47-35 lead at the break. However, the Wildcats come out of the intermission on fire, taking a lead late in the contest. The Crusaders fought through an offensive drought to pull away in the final minutes and secure 79-74 victory on the road.
For the game, the Crusaders shot 50.9 percent from the field despite struggling from beyond the arc and shooting 21.1 percent from three-point range. North Greenville fought through 19 turnovers in the game and held the Wildcats to just 42.1 shooting from the floor.
Chris Dean continued his recent hot streak, scoring a game-high 27 points on 9-for-13 shooting from the floor and 8-for-10 from the free throw line, while pulling down a team-high nine rebounds.
Tyshawn Patterson scored 19 points of his own in the contest, while Keith Johnson chipped in 11 points. Jimmy Ellis rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points of his own in 20 minutes of action.
The Crusaders (10-13, 5-12 in Conference Carolinas) will return to Charlotte on Saturday, Feb. 23 for a matchup with conference for Queens University at 7:30 p.m.
