Banner Elk, NC – Led by four double digit scorer, the North Greenville University men’s basketball team picked up its first win of the new year with a convincing 84-69 victory over Lees McRae College on Wednesday night.
The Bobcats ran out to an early lead in the first nine minutes of play until a three-pointer by senior Jimmy Ellis gave the Crusaders a lead they would never relinquish. Over the final five minutes of play, North Greenville put together a 19-6 run that left them ahead 50-31 at the break.
The second half of action held much of the same as the Crusaders opened up with a 12-4 run that gave the team its largest lead of 27 points with 13:28 remaining on the game clock. North Greenville held strong as Lees McRae was unable to get any closer than 15 points leading to the 84-69 win for the Crusaders.
The win gave North Greenville its second Conference Carolinas triumph on the season as the Crusaders shot 40 percent from the floor and pulled down 57 rebounds, including 19 on the offensive side of the ball. In comparison, Lees McRae shot just 35.4 percent in the game, including just 16.7 percent from three-point range.
Senior Jamaal Pryor led the charge for North Greenville, turning in his best performance of the season scoring 12 points, while pulling down a game-high 13 rebounds in 25 minutes off of the bench. Tyshawn Patterson led all scorers with 24 points to go along with eight rebounds, while Chris Dean 16 points and eight rebounds of his own with a game-high four blocks. Keith Johnson filled the stat sheet with 10 points, six rebounds and five assists and Tim Franklin recorded nine points and five assists in 32 minutes of action.
North Greenville (5-6, 2-5 in Conference Carolinas) will continue its road trip on Saturday, Feb. 19 as they travel to Misenheimer, NC to take on Pfeiffer University at 4 p.m.
