Tigerville, SC – All twelve Crusaders scored in the game as the North Greenville University men’s basketball team opened the 2012-13 season with a 110-79 victory over the Eagles of Toccoa Falls College on Friday night in Hayes Gymnasium.
The game began with both teams trading baskets and Toccoa Falls gaining their largest lead of the contest with a 19-13 edge at the 13:46 mark in the first half.
The Crusaders quickly closed the door and after tying the game at 19-19 with 12:55 remaining in the half, put together a 13-0 run over a five-minute span to take a 32-19 lead with 7:38 left in the opening half. North Greenville held its double-digit lead for the remainder of the half as the Crusaders led 46-36 at the break.
North Greenville opened the second half with a 27-11 run over the first eight minutes as the team led by as many as 32 to put away the game and earn the 110-79 victory to open the season.
Senior transfer Tyshawn Patterson had a stellar first game in a Crusader uniform as he scored a game-high 23 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the floor to go along with four rebounds and four assists in 25 minutes of play. Junior Chris Dean was second on the team with 16 points and eight rebounds, while junior transfer Keith Johnson was the third highest scoring starter with 10 points as well as five rebounds and five assists.
From the bench, North Greenville outscored the Eagles 53-15 led by senior Jimmy Ellis with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor. Sophomore Phillip Brown chipped in 12 points, five rebounds and a game-high four blocks, while AJ Clements scored 11 points in his first collegiate game. Senior Jamaal Pryor recorded seven points and eight rebounds in 20 minutes of play off the bench, while fellow senior Time Franklin recorded eight rebounds and a game-high six assists.
The Crusaders (1-0, 0-0 in Conference Carolinas) will hit the road on Monday, Nov. 9 as they travel to Brevard, NC to take on Brevard College at 7 p.m. in the first game of a three-game road trip.
