Tigerville, SC – The Crusaders were unable to send the five graduating seniors off into the sunset as they fell prey to the visiting Mountain Lions of Young Harris College 88-80 on Thursday night in Hayes Gymnasium.
As a team, the Crusaders and Mountains Lions each shot 47% from the floor. North Greenville’s downfall was a variety of turnovers (16) and poor three-point shooting (27.8%).
On a night in which all five seniors were honored, Paul Harrison led the charge with 18 points, 17 rebounds and nine assists. Jason Wray also filled up the stat sheet with 15 points, eight rebounds and six assists, while fellow senior Zack Shields finished with 14 points and seven rebounds.
Chris Dean made a splash off of the bench with 14 points and Tim Franklin chipped in eight points and six assists of his own.
Despite the loss, North Greenville finished the regular season with a 12-14 but were 8-6 inside Hayes Gymnasium. In their first season as a member of Conference Carolinas, the Crusaders finished 5-11 overall.
Apart from the subpar conference record, North Greenville still has a chance to make it into the conference tournament beginning on Tuesday, Feb. 28. Should Erskine and Limestone both lose in separate games on Friday, the Crusaders hold a tiebreaker with each team which would allow them to sneak into the last spot for postseason play.
