Banner Elk, NC – The North Greenville University men’s basketball team was unable to gather back-to-back wins after a 76-61 overtime loss to Lees-McRae College on Tuesday night.
After the Crusaders held a six-point advantage at the half, the Bobcats battled back to even the score at 58-58 and send the game into an extra period. The overtime period was all Lees-McRae as the Bobcats outscored North Greenville 18-3 in final five minutes of play.
Leading the charge for North Greenville was Zack Shields who recorded a team-high 18 points. Paul Harrison secured his 15th double-double of the season with 17 points and a game-high 16 rebounds with four blocks. Jason Wray was the only other Crusader in double figures as he finished the game with 11 points and a team-high six assists.
Despite the loss, North Greenville is still in contention for a spot in the Conference Carolinas Tournament. The Crusasders hold a tiebreaker advantange with Limestone and Erskine, who both play games on Friday night. Should both the Saints and Flying Fleet lose on Friday, North Greenville will recieve a #4 seed in the tournament and begin postseason play on Tuesday, Feb. 28.
The Crusaders (12-13, 5-11 in conference) will play their final regular season game of the season on Thursday, February 23 against Young Harris College. The contest is set to tip off at 7 p.m. in Hayes Gymnasium.
