The two squads kept their feet on the pedals in the second half. The Crusaders closed the gap in the first four minutes of play in the second period and took the lead with 15:57 left in the game. Hiwassee tied the game twice more in the last 14 minutes of play before NGU pulled away in the final five minutes closing the game on a 21-12 run.
“We obviously did not defend well in the first half,” said head coach Chad Lister. “Our guys did a nice job sharing the ball in the second half.” With the win, the Crusaders break a four game losing streak and improve to 12-10 on the season.
The Crusaders will play again on Saturday at home against Morris College. Tipoff is set for 4pm but will begin 25 minutes after the conclusion of the women’s game which will be played at 2.
