Clinton, S.C.— On Thursday night the North Greenville men’s basketball team traveled to Clinton, South Carolina to take on the Blue Hose of Presbyterian College for the team’s first exhibition game of the 2009/2010 basketball season.
PC went on to win the preseason matchup 60-57 however the Crusaders came from 13 down in the second half to make the game close. In the first half the Crusaders took a 19-17 lead with 5 minutes to go only to watch disappear as the Blue Hose went into halftime leading 29 to 22. In the first half the Crusaders were lead by Paul Harrison and Luke Lattimer who both totaled 8 points. Harrison also collected 5 rebounds. Presbyterian came out strong in the second half taking a 17 point lead on the Crusaders with 11 minutes left in the game.
The Crusaders quickly closed the gap riding the momentum of a 14 point run. North Greenville cut the lead to 3 points with 18 seconds left on the game clock with a chance to tie. Paul Harrison collected a Tim Franklin rebound and retreated to the three point line throwing up a prayer that hit off the front of the iron as time expired. “Our guys played well” said head coach Chad Lister, “The kept fighting and came back and I am very proud of them. We are disappointed that we didn’t win but it was a great team effort.” Leaders for the Crusaders were Luke Lattimer who racked up 19 points and 6 rebounds and went 4 for 11 from the 3 point line. Paul Harrison came up one rebound short of a double double with 18 points and 9 rebounds. The Crusaders have two exhibition games left on November 7th and 13th against University of North Carolina at Wilmington and Kenesaw State. The Crusaders open the 2009/2010 regular season on November 16th against Toccoa Falls at 7pm in Tigerville.
