The North Greenville men (8-14) could not come up with a solution for Brevard College forward Jonathan Whitson, who scored a game-high 31 points to lead the Tornados (10-11) to a 74-56 win over the Crusaders in Brevard, NC.
NGU continued its first half woes as they shot a mere 35% and fell behind 35-20 at halftime. The Crusaders did battle back in the second half, behind Kyler Vitko, who scored 16 points and yanked down six rebounds, and Paul Harrison, who scored 11 points. It was not enough to make up for the large deficit from the first 20 minutes, which included a 19 point Brevard lead.
North Greenville shot 39.6% from the field and Brevard had a hot 54%. “We didn’t play very well tonight, and going into the final few games of the season, we need to evaluate a few situations to see if we can get some momentum going into the NCCAA Regional Tournament,” said head Coach Chad Lister.
NGU will host Knoxville College Saturday, Feb. 14 at 4:00 p.m. at Hayes Gym in Tigerville.
