The North Greenville men (4-8) faced yet another hot shooting guard Saturday afternoon at Hayes Gym, and Brandon Wright’s 29 points, which included eight three-pointers, was enough to lead Erskine (4-9) past the Crusader 77-63.
Frosty cold conditions inside Hayes Gym saw the Crusaders shoot a cool 36% (9-25) in the first half as the Flying Fleet took an expansive 38-26 lead. Erskine led 25-20 with 5:40 left in the first 20 minutes, but the Fleet reeled off a 13-6 run to close the half. Marko Latinovic scored 13 points and Nick added 12 to provide balanced scoring behind Wright’s second big game against NGU. He scored 39 in a loss to the Crusaders on Jan. 3.
Kyler Vitko led North Greenville in scoring with 17 points, and freshman center Paul Harrison had a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Coach Chad Lister’s squad will next seek to avenge a 71-70 loss to Montreat when they host the Cavaliers Tuesday, Jan. 20 at 7:00 p.m. at Hayes Gymnasium.
