TIGERVILLE, SC- North Greenville University shot 63.3% to race out to a 19-point halftime lead over visiting Lees-McRae College. The Crusaders withstood a second-half rally by the Bobcats to hold on for an 82-71 victory. The win improves NGU to 11-10 on the season, while the Bobcats fall to 4-15.
North Greenville was sparked in the first half by Jordan Richmond's 17 points and Amonzo Gantt's ten rebounds. The team had 15 assists at the break and led 47-28.
Lees-McRae slowly chipped away at the Crusaders' lead, eventually cutting to deficit to five points at the 4:30 mark. The Bobcats were spurred by Aaron Dugger's five second-half 3-point baskets. However, North Greenville hit seven free throws down the stretch, and played tough defense to hold off the surging Bobcats for an 82-71 victory.
Richmond led NGU with 20 points and six rebounds. Gantt scored 12 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds. Austin Randel chipped in 14 points, while Josh Burgess added 13 points and six assists.
Dugger's 21 points led all scorers. Stephen Haymer scored 13 points for the Bobcats, while Henry Williams and Darius Roper added 12 and 11 points respectively.
The Crusaders will be back in action Wednesday night as they travel to Wingate University for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
