TIGERVILLE, SC- Amonzo Gantt recorded his fourth consecutive double-double in points and rebounds with 16 points and 11 boards as North Greenville University downed Anderson University 62-54 Saturday afternoon in NCAA Division II men's basketball action. The Crusaders improve to 10-10 on the season, while the Trojans fall to 2-17.
Aiding Gantt were P.J. Schumacher and Jordan Richmond, who scored 14 and ten points respectively for the Crusaders. North Greenville shot 46.3% from the field for the game.
J.R. Howell led all scorers with 26 points to lead the Trojans. Nathan Russell and John LeSueur chipped in ten and nine points respectively. Anderson finished the game shooting 46.8% from the field.
AU came out in the first half firing. The Trojans built a 12-point lead in the first six minutes. NGU, however, rallied with a 15-3 run over the next seven minutes to pull even. Eventually, the Crusaders would take the lead on a Schumacher 3-point basket with thirty seconds remaining in the half. NGU led 29-28 at the break.
The second half featured 12 lead changes. Both Schumacher and Richmond scored eight points in the second period to spur the Crusaders, who took the lead for good 52-50 at the 3:43 mark on a pair of Austin Randel free throws.
North Greenville will be back in action Monday night as Lees-McRae visits Hayes Gymnasium for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
