TIGERVILLE, SC- Scott Williams scored 22 points and hauled in 12 rebounds for Carson-Newman College as the Eagles downed North Greenville University 98-65 Monday night in Hayes Gymnasium in NCAA Division II men's basketball action. The Crusaders fall to 6-8 with the loss, while the Eagles improve to 7-7 on the season.
Carson-Newman forced NGU into 14 turnovers and shot 47.3% from the field, including 12-28 shooting behind the arc. North Greenville shot 43.3% from the field. The Eagles also out-rebounded NGU 43-23. Carson-Newman held a 50-33 lead at halftime.
Williams led all scorers with 22 points. Andy Tipton dropped 17 points for the Eagles, while Clay Scott and Darren Williams each added 13 points.
Jordan Richmond scored 13 points to pace the Crusaders. Austin Randel and Andrew Nipper chipped in 12 and 10 points respectively.
North Greenville will be back in action Wednesday night as they host Belmont Abbey College in Hayes Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
