TIGERVILLE, SC- A new-look North Greenville University men's basketball team held on for a 72-69 victory over visiting Virginia Intermont College Thursday night in Hayes Gymnasium. Three players returned to the lineup tonight to spur the Crusaders. North Greenville improves to 3-3 on the season, while the Cobras fall to 1-10,
P.J. Schumacher, playing in his first game this season, led NGU with 17 points, five rebounds, and five assists. The Crusaders also returned Daniel Morbitzer and Andrew Nipper. Morbitzer added 11 points, while Jordan Richmond chipped in ten.
Michael Scorsome led all scorers with 20 points for the Cobras. DeShon Moore, Courtney White, and Juan Ornelas added 13, 11, and ten points respectively.
NGU led the majority of the first half, but two baskets by Scorsome tied the game heading into the break. VIC got up by as many as eight points in the second half, but NGU went on a 12-4 run to tie the game on a Schumacher three-pointer with 4:46 remaining in the ballgame. on the ensuing possession White hit a trifecta to give the Cobras another lead, but Richmond answered with a triple of his own the next trip down the floor with 3:59 remaining in the game. After trading baskets, Morbitzer hit a layup at the 1:53 mark to give the Crusaders the lead for good. Schumacher nailed two free throws with six seconds remaining to seal the victory.
NGU will be back in action Saturday night as theyt travel to Carson-Newman College for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off with the Eagles.
